Washington, D.C. (Sept. 12, 2024) — Freedom Forum, a national nonprofit dedicated to fostering First Amendment freedoms for all Americans, today announced it will host its third annual 1A Fest on Saturday, Sept. 28, at The Wharf in Southwest Washington, D.C. Actress and “The Daily Show” contributor Dulcé Sloan will headline the festival, which will feature comedy, music, books, art installations, discussions and other displays of free expression.

Launched in 2022, 1A Fest is a fun, free festival that invites the public to celebrate the everyday freedoms brought to you by the First Amendment. "1A Fest 2024” will kick off with an insightful discussion about free expression in a changing America with Jenn White, host of WAMU and NPR’s “1A”, and conclude with a performance from D.C. go-go band EU.

For the main event, Dulcé Sloan will perform her one-of-a-kind comedy in a stand-up routine followed by a conversation about the role of free expression in her work and in comedy more broadly. After the performance, Dulcé will discuss and sign her new book “Hello Friends! Stories of Dating, Destiny and Day Jobs.” The first 100 attendees will receive a free copy.

Other activations along The Wharf will feature local musicians, cartoonists, First Amendment-themed food and drink, and an immersive experience called the “Tent of Extraordinary Freedoms.”

“1A Fest 2024” is free and open to the public. Registration is required for programs featuring Jenn White, Dulcé Sloan and EU.
